INSURANCE CLAIMS OVERVIEW

Abacus Home Improvement helps to restore, replace or repair your home in the event of an accident or damaging weather event. No matter how well your home is constructed, your structure, roof, gutters, siding, windows, and more can fall victim to accidents like fire or flood, or Southwest Florida’s hurricane season.

Our goal is to provide complete customer service, and the highest quality workmanship from the initial inspection through post-construction.

The Inspection

The first thing you will need to do in order to determine your insurance claim is to get an inspection by a licensed Florida Contractor. We’ll review the damage to your home, and determine if and how your insurance claim should to be filed. We’re specialists in detecting damage, some of which may be hidden. Additionally, we are also aware of all industry criteria and guidelines that will determine if it will need to be a replacement or repair.

We will then review all the steps of the insurance restoration process, and also explain the agreement between us that will allow us to go to work for you. This agreement simply states that until your claim is approved by the insurance company, and they are willing to pay for repairs, you are under no obligation to Abacus Home Improvement, and that the only cost to you will be the insurance deductible.

The Claim

As the homeowner, you will be the one filing your insurance claim. It’s not difficult. You’ll call your insurance company and let them know that your home has sustained damage. Once you have a claim number, we can assist from that point. While filing, you can let them know you’re working with Abacus, and you would like the adjuster to meet with us. This step will save time as the adjuster will not need to make several trips, which will help us restore your home to its original condition as quickly as possible.

The List of Work

Once your claim is filed, we will return to your home and do a complete list of work that will  need to be done. At this point, our focus will be on making sure you get all you’re entitled to.

Meeting With the Adjuster

Next, we will meet with the adjuster and point out all the damages we found. The adjuster will create his own list of damages as well. It’s good to know that both Abacus and the adjuster work from the same guidelines (this will make it easier to come to an agreement). Additionally, Abacus Home Improvement has experience working with all major insurance companies. We understand the language of insurance policies, and this allows us to communicate well with adjusters. When an accurate scope of work is confirmed by the adjuster and Abacus, a complete line-by-line itemized pricing for the project will be compiled for funding the repairs.

Deductible

Once we receive approval from the insurance company, two things will happen. The adjuster will tell your insurance company to write you a check for the actual cash value for your claim. While you are waiting for your check, we (with you) will pick out your building materials and colors. Also, we will collect deductible from you. This should be your only out-of-pocket expense.

Materials

We take all compiled information and prepare all work orders, and order the materials. Once materials have arrived on site, we confirm that the order is correct. You will, at this point, give Abacus the first check received from the insurance company.

Final Invoice

We will send the final invoice to your insurance company for the remaining funds. It generally takes two to four weeks for the final check to get back to you. All funds will be sent to you, because it’s your claim. You’ll have plenty of time to make sure everything is done to your expectations. When you receive the final check from your insurance company you will give it to us.

Pre-Construction

We realize the importance of being prepared for the arrival of our crew. So we will call and arrange the start time with you. We’ll also let you know how you should prepare for construction. We will also go over any areas that will need special attention (such as leaks). Additionally, we will again inventory all materials, confirm your color choices and view the area for safety.

Site Prep

When we arrive, we will check in with you. Our crew will then prepare the home for construction. From this point forward, all construction will be supervised by a Project Manager. We will address any special instructions or concerns you may have.

Construction

The Project Manager will organize the crew and point out the specifics of the job. When we are performing multiple projects (roof, siding, gutters, and windows), roofing is usually first. We generally work from top to bottom. And, safety is our utmost concern.

First, we’ll remove all of the old and damaged material. Then, we’ll install the new material. At the end of each day of construction, we will do a cleanup, and after the last stage of construction, a final overall cleanup will be performed.

Post Construction

After each phase of construction, we will inspect, and make sure everything is the way it should be. We will also make sure you’re completely satisfied with every aspect of our work. We want to make sure that project meets your satisfaction and our high quality standards.

Warranty

After you receive your final check from the insurance company Abacus Home Improvement will collect the final balance that is due. Your warranty will be sent to you.

POPULAR QUESTIONS

  • When should I notify my insurance company about the damage to my home?

As soon as you become aware of a potential construction insurance claim, gather the facts and notify your broker or claim department, even if you know little at the time.

  • How will my homeowner’s insurance company calculate the cost of completing work on my home?

Your insurance company should pay you the exact amount it will cost to restore your home to its pre-loss condition. Their adjuster and your contractor will agree on a total cost, and the insurance company will pay the cost of repairs to the chosen contractor, or send you a check for the exact amount.

  • What types of damages will my homeowner's insurance company cover?

Homeowners insurance commonly covers these perils: fire, windstorm, hail, lightning, smoke, explosion, theft, vandalism, riot and vehicle collision. However, please contact your insurance company or refer to your current policy to be sure.
